New World Order is R&B/soul singer-songwriter Curtis Mayfield’s final studio album. He was paralyzed during the recording, but still sang and oversaw the production. According to Australian radio station Triple J, Mayfield recorded his songs by lying on his back, the only way he could get enough air into his lungs, and singing one verse at a time. After every verse for a song had been recorded, they were edited together for the finished, continuous track. New World Order received three Grammy nominations for 'Best R&B Album', 'Best Male R&B Vocal Performance' for the title track 'New World Order' and 'Best Male R&B Vocal Performance' for the track 'Back to Living Again'.
